Sexual Health Treatment

My dream has been to provide high-quality sexual health treatment based on up to date research in the area of sexual medicine. My interest is in how trauma, long term stress, and burnout impact autonomic nervous system functioning, and in turn how this impacts sexual health. My knowledge in human sexuality and relationships ensures that I provide my patients with the best, holistic treatment methods.

My journey to becoming specialised in the area of sexual health started with my training in South Africa where I worked with extremely vulnerable and traumatised populations. I went on to provide vacurect therapy for individuals with spinal cord injuries and this work allowed me to see the power and beauty in intimacy and relationship coaching for all people, all bodies and from all walks of life. In 2020, I became a member of the My Sexual Health team of South Africa , providing psychotherapy to treat erectile dysfunction, female sexual pain, couples therapy and intimacy couching, perinatal therapy, sexual trauma, sexual anxiety, traumatic brain injury and sexual functioning, body image and sex, fertility and infertility, transgender identification and HIV therapy. I have also designed and developed seminars and workshops providing psychoeducation and skills for patients suffering from somatic psychosexual and functional disorders.

Some FAQ Questions

The first session is an introduction to therapy and for you to become comfortable with your new therapist as well as the online therapy setting. It is also a time when Tamlyn will gain an understanding of why you have sought out therapy and what your therapy needs are.
This is different for every person. Some people benefit from a longer term, more in-depth therapy process whereby brain changes (also known as neuroplasticity) can occur. Others will benefit from a shorter skills-based therapy which lasts anywhere from ten to twenty five sessions. Some people require minimal therapy sessions in order to gain education and understanding about their condition or to work through a particular problem in their life. This is often something that is discussed in the first therapy session.
Confidentiality in therapy is of the utmost importance in order to create a relationship based on trust and safety. There are legal obligations for a professional to release information if the patient is at risk of harm to themselves or someone else, or if they are required by a court order to do so.
Tamlyn’s practice provides international services which means that therapy takes place online.
